Se acerca el gran día de la recogida. Este próximo fin de semana, el sábado once, en un Eroski de nuestra ciudad, ayudaremos en la operación kilo junto a algunos voluntarios del Banco de Alimentos. Los responsables de Banco de Alimentos se pusieron en contacto con nosotros, y nos dijeron que debíamos ir a su sede en Sárdoma para hacer un curso en el que conoceríamos la labor del Banco (a pesar de que ya lo conociésemos, por actividades realizadas con el colegio), cómo funcionan allí las cosas, y cómo debíamos proceder el sábado en la recogida de alimentos.

Llegamos allí, y nos recibieron los responsables del Banco de Alimentos, quienes nos hicieron un "tour" por las instalaciones, enseñándonos paso a paso, cómo se lleva a cabo el proceso por el cual entran los alimentos en el Banco y salen otra vez de allí, destinados a las personas que los necesitan:

• Primero: organizaciones, marcas, o personas individuales donan alimentos que son dados de alta en el Banco.

• Después, se almacenan los alimentos clasificados en distintos espacios donde se encuentran todos los que son del mismo tipo (pasta, conservas..).

• Al llevar a cabo esto, se hacen paquetes de alimentos personalizados atendiendo al número de personas y las características a las que va dirigido (guarderías, asilos..).

• Por último, estos paquetes son identificados según a quien van dirigidos, y estos, tienen que ir a buscarlos, ya que el BdA no se ocupa de la distribución de los alimentos.

Después de saber cómo trabajan en el BdA, nos llevaron a la sala de juntas, donde nos enseñaron cómo tendríamos que trabajar el sábado en la recogida: algunos de nosotros tendremos que repartir folletos informando a la gente sobre la labor que estamos llevando a cabo, otros empaquetando alimentos y clasificándolos, y otros, anotando en una plantillas la cantidad de alimentos que llevamos.

Desde luego promete ser un día ajetreado y con mucho movimiento, pero estamos seguros que a la vez que colaboramos, lo pasaremos muy bien haciéndolo.

Coming the big day collection this next weekend, Saturday eleven, in an Eroski of our city. Food Bank responsibles got in touch with us, and told us that we should go there to do a course in which we would know the work of the Bank (we already knew it, because of activities that we did in the school), how things work there, and how we must proceed Saturday to collect food.

We arrived there, and we were received by the responsables of the BdA, who made us a "tour" of the facilities, teaching us step by step the process in which food arrives into the bank and goes out again, this time, destinated for those who need them:

•  First: organizations, brands, or individuals donate foods that are discharged in the BdA.

• Then the food is classified in different spaces where are all which are of the same type (pasta, canned...) and which are stored.

• After carrying out this, food packages are customized according to the number of people and the features to which it is addressed (nurseries, nursing homes...).

• Finally, these packages are identified according to whom they are directed, and these have to go looking for them, the BdA is not concerned with the distribution of food.

After learning how they work in the BdA, they took us to the boardroom, where they taught us how we will have to work on Saturday in the collection: some of us will have to distribute brochures informing people about the work we are carrying out, other have to do the food packaging and the classifying , and others, scoring in a template the amount of food we carry.

It certainly promises to be a busy, busy day, but we are confident that while we collaborate, we will pass a very good time.

El sábado 28 de marzo organizamos un concierto solidario, el local estaba casi lleno, asistieron más de 300 personas que salieron muy contentas y satisfechas. Recaudamos más 1000€. Tras la realización de nuestro exitoso concierto, orgullosos de nuestro trabajo, nos fuimos a ingresar el dinero en Cáritas lo antes posible.

Saturday, March 28th, we organized a charity concert, the place was almost full, there were more than 300 people who came out very happy and satisfied. We raised over €1000. Following our successful concert, proud of our work, we went to put the money in Caritas as soon as possible.

En consecuencia, el centro de día recibió el dinero. Estaban muy contentos no esperaban tanto, contaron que los niños habían empezado a aplaudir y estuvieron muy felices cuando les dieron la noticia y se fueron a celebrarlo a la playa. Nos enviaron fotos de la primera de las muchas salidas que tendrán. Desde Nexus recibimos la noticia ilusionados, orgullosos de nosotros y con una sensación enorme de estar haciendo feliz a mucha gente, la cual, nos hacía mucho más felices a nosotros.

As a result, the CAD received the money. They were very happy, theydidn´t expect so much, when the children knew the new theystarted to applaud and were very happy, they  went to celebrate at the beach. They sent us photos of the first of the many excursions that they will have. From Nexus, we received the news excited, proud of us and with a huge sense of being happy for making a lot of people happy, which made us much happier to us.

En el colegio hay otro grupo que participa en el concurso, Beta, y hoy nos hemos juntado con ellos para hacernos una foto y aprovechamos para sacar una del equipo Nexus al completo.

Otra actividad en la que algunos miembros de Nexus participamos de forma voluntaria es ayudar en un asilo. Los sábados por la mañana vamos al asilo de Santa Marta, en Alcabre, y pasamos unas horas acompañando a un grupo de ancianas. La mayoría de estas mujeres son dependientes ya que nacesitan a otra persona para poder moverse, comer, etc, y a demás muchas están solas, porque no tienen más familiares o estos  no se quieren hacer cargo de ellas. Lo que los voluntarios hacemos allí es acercarnos a estas personas y ayudarles en todo lo que podemos: darles de comer, llevarlas a pasear, hablarles... La experiencia es muy gratificante, sobretodo cuando te das cuenta de que estás haciendo felices a personas mayores que están solas y lo mínimo que necesitan es un poco de atención.

Another activity in which some members of Nexus are participating voluntarily is helping in an asylum. On Saturdays mornings we go to the Santa Marta asylum, in Alcabre, and we spent a few hours accompanying an elderly women group. Most of them are dependent so they need another person to move, eat, etc and many of them are alone because they don't have any relatives or they don't want to take care of them. What volunteers do there is get close to these people and help them in all we can: feed them, take them for a walk, talk to them... The experience is very gratifying, especially when you realize that you are making happy old people who are alone and the minimum they need is a bit of attention.

A través de la red social Twitter, nos enteramos de que el banco de alimentos estaba falto de algunos alimentos básicos como la leche, así que decidimos ponernos en contacto para ayudar. Al hablar con los responsables, nos dimos cuanta de que emprender una campaña nosotros solos no serviría de gran ayuda, que sería mejor que nos uniéramos a la próxima recogida de alimentos abriendo nuestro propio punto de recogida y dándole difusión...¡Nos ponemos en marcha!

Through the social network Twitter we found out that the food bank is lanking in some basic food like milk, so we decided to contact for helping. While we were speaking with the reponsible, we realised that undertake a campaing by ourselfs won't be  helpfull and it would be better that we joined to the next one opening our own collection point and giving it spread... Here we go!

Llevábamos varios días esperando algo nerviosos. Dio la casualidad de que muchos del grupo estábamos juntos en el momento en el que nuestro profesor nos mandó un mensaje diciéndonos que ya estaban las notas. No podíamos aguantar la espera. Hubo un revuelo inicial cuando la vimos, no sabíamos cómo funcionaba la puntuación, si tener un número alto era bueno o malo, o por qué el tiempo ponía trece minutos cuando a nosotros en el examen nos aparecían siete. Para solucionar nuestras dudas nos leímos todo y las cosas que no entendimos se las preguntamos a la organización en un correo, que respondieron bastante rápido, lo cual agradecimos, ya que despejó todas nuestras dudas. Pero en resumen nos alegramos muchísimo ya que la nota era muy buena y la habíamos conseguido entre todos como equipo. Los nervios se nos pasaron, primera fase superada, y gracias a esta noticia, continuamos con el resto del proyecto con muchas más ganas y motivación.

We have been waiting for several days a bit nervous. For our surprise, many of the members of the group were together then our teacher sent us a message telling us the results of the test. We couldn't hold the wait. There was an initial uproar when we saw it, we didn't know the score , if having a high number was good or bad, or why the time put thirteen minutes if when we finished it in seven. To resolve our doubts we read everything that we did not understand and we asked the organization in a mail, responded quickly, which we appreciated, all of our doubts were solved. But in summary, we are very happy, the note was very good and we got it together as a team. We passed the nerves, first phase passed, and thanks to this news, we continued with the rest of the project with much more will and motivation.

Y al final... ¡todo salió a pedir de boca! Estamos muy contentos con el resultado.

Ha sido una tarde muy divertida aunque algo inquieta, nos ha gustado mucho esta experiencia y volveríamos a repetirla muchísimas veces más. Tanto tiempo organizando mereció la pena.

Ahora... ¡a llevar los beneficios a Cáritas!

And in the end ... everything went without a hitch! We are very happy with the result.

It was a funny evening though somewhat restless, we have really enjoyed this experience and of course we would repeat many times. So much time organizing....was worth it.

Now ... let's take the benefits to Caritas!
