Y al final... ¡todo salió a pedir de boca! Estamos muy contentos con el resultado.

Ha sido una tarde muy divertida aunque algo inquieta, nos ha gustado mucho esta experiencia y volveríamos a repetirla muchísimas veces más. Tanto tiempo organizando mereció la pena.

Ahora... ¡a llevar los beneficios a Cáritas!

And in the end ... everything went without a hitch! We are very happy with the result.

It was a funny evening though somewhat restless, we have really enjoyed this experience and of course we would repeat many times. So much time organizing....was worth it.

Now ... let's take the benefits to Caritas!

   

Todos estamos muy nerviosos y ultimando detalles, las canciones que tocarán los grupos, haciendo las últimas difusiones y esperando que todo salga bien. Por la tarde algunos miembros del grupo fueron a repartir folletos a la zona vieja de nuestra ciudad, ya que iba a empezar la reconquista y había mucha gente, teníamos que aprovechar.

We are all very nervous and finalizing details, the songs that the groups will sing, making the latest broadcasts and hoping that everything goes well. 

In the afternoon some members of the group were to leafleting to the old part of our city, because it was going to begin the reconquest and there were many people, we had to take advantage.

Tuvimos alguna que otra mala noticia: uno de los artistas del concierto no podía asistir, XV. Además, hubo un pequeño problema con la hora del concierto.

Nos asustamos un poco pero enseguida nos pusimos en marcha para solucionar los problemas, hablamos con el resto de músicos y acordamos una nueva división del tiempo y en cuanto a la hora del concierto supuso cambiar todos los carteles y también dar a conocer el cambio en las redes sociales para que no hubiese equivocaciones; pero al final...¡nada que no se pudiera solucionar con un buena trabajo en equipo!

Para compensar estos deslices, nos enteramos de que en el periódico Atlántico, de nuestra ciudad, habían puesto un pequeño artículo en el que se hablaba de nuestro concierto, noticia que devolvió los ánimos al grupo, ya que eso nos ayudó a la difusión de la iniciativa. 

Además contamos con la ayuda de dos compañeras, Carlota y Andrea, que a pesar de no formar parte de Nexus, se ofrecieron a pegar carteles por la ciudad para que todo el mundo los viera y asistiese al concierto.

We had some other bad news: one of the artists of the concert could not attend, XV. In addition, there was a small problem with the hour of the concert.

We scared a little but soon got underway to solve the problems, talk with other musicians and agreed a new division of the time, and related with the hour of the concert we had to change all posters and also publicize the change in social networks to don´t have any mistakes; but in the end... nothing that it couldn´t be resolved with a good teamwork!

To compensate these bad news, we saw that in the Atlantic newspaper, had put a small article which spoke of our concert, news that returned the spirits to the group, since that helped the spread of the initiative. 

We also have the help of two classmates, Carlota and Andrea, who despite not being part of Nexus, volunteered to paste posters around our town, so everyone saw them and soonest will go to the concert.

Ayer, 19 de marzo, dos componentes de nuestro grupo, Aldara y Luis, tras la petición de mostrar nuestro proyecto a la dirección del colegio, realizaron una presentación sobre este. Utilizaron como apoyo esta presentación que incluye los distintos puntos a tener en cuenta sobre el proyecto. Salieron muy contentos de ella tras la satisfacción que provocó en el equipo directivo nuestro proyecto. Todo lo que recibimos fueron mensajes de ánimo. Aparte de la presentación, entregamos unos cuantos dossieres informativos, no tantos como personas son, por ahorrar folios.

Yesterday, 19th of March, two of us, Aldara and Luis, after the wish to show our project to the school management, did a presentation about it.

They used like support this presentation that includes the different subjects to note about the project. Aldara and Luis finished the meeting very happy because of the satisfaction that the presentation produced in the school management. All that we received were messages of encouragement. Apart from the presentation, we handed out a few dossiers, not as many as people are, to save paper.

Algunos miembros de nuestro equipo se ocuparon de hablar con los grupos explicándoles nuestras ideas, quiénes somos, por qué hacemos todo esto... No todos aceptaron, pero sí los suficientes, lo que nos ayudó a zanjar el tema de los artistas. Una vez acordado todo con el local se formó un grupo de Whatsapp con un miembro de cada grupo y dos de Nexus, para comunicar todas la novedades con rapidez. Como queríamos desperdiciar el menor tiempo posible en el concierto, quedamos con los grupos para fomentar que compartieran instrumentos, como la batería, para que los cambios de grupo fueran más fluidos. En esa reunión también acordamos todas las cosas que tenían que llevar ellos y les repartimos carteles. Por último hicimos una foto con algún miembro de cada grupo para colgar en redes sociales y publicitar el evento. Hubo un buen ambiente y sin problemas. Parece que todo va a salir bien. ¡Estamos ansiosos!

Some members of our team coped with talk to the artists explaining our ideas, who we are, why do all of this... Not everyone agreed, but enough, which helped us to settle the issue of artists. Once agreed everything with the local, a Whatsapp group was formed with a member of each group and two of Nexus, to communicate all the news quickly. As we wanted to waste the shortest possible time at the concert, we met with groups to encourage them to share instruments, such as the battery, so the group changes were more fluid. At that meeting we also agreed all the things that they have to carry to the concert and give them posters. Finally we made a photo to each group member to post on social networks and advertise the event. There was a good atmosphere and without any problems. It seems that everything will turn out well. We are very nervous!

En este aspecto el colegio nos ayudó bastante ya que nos ofreció imprimirnos todo si era en blanco y negro y DIN  A4. Nosotros tendríamos solo que cortar las entradas, numerarlas, sellarlas y hacer los tacos, entre todos sería más fácil. Para los carteles grandes y en color nos movimos por distintas imprentas de Vigo buscando que nos hicieran el mejor precio explicándoles para qué era.

In this aspect the college helped us a lot, it offered us to print us all if it was in black and white DIN A4. We have only to cut entries, number them, seal them and make tacos, doing it together would be easier. For large and color posters we moved by different printers of Vigo looking which make us the best price explaining for that it was.

Ahora que ya lo teníamos todo preparado, resultó imposible realizar el concierto de 21 a 23h del día 28 de Marzo, como habíamos acordado, con motivo de otro evento que tenía lugar en el local a esa hora. Nos fastidió bastante por los carteles, entradas y porque ya habíamos empezado la difusión. Después de hablarlo entre nosotros, decidimos que tenía que ser ese día, y que había dos opciones: o cambiar la hora, o cambiar el local. Esta situación nos estresó  bastante, estamos en semana de exámenes y no nos da tiempo a todo. Hablamos con los grupos pidiéndoles opinión, el otro local que podíamos conseguir con tan poca antelación, era el auditorio del ayuntamiento y ellos prefirieron cambiar de hora. Volvimos a hablar con el local y acordamos que el concierto sería a las siete. A toda prisa cambiamos los carteles y el resto de las cosas, y lo mandamos a imprimir, a la vez que avisábamos a todo el mundo del cambio. Esperemos que todo salga bien.

Once that we had all ready for the concert, he person in charge of El Ensanche, told us that it would be impossible to make the concert from 9 p.m to 11 p.m in March the 28th, because of another event that wolud take place at that time in El Ensanche. This fact was a big disappointment for us, because whe had already made the posters and the tickets, and we had also begun to announce the concert. After we talk about it, we decided that the concert must be the 28th of March, so we had two possible options: The first one was to change the hour of the concert,and the second one was to change the local. We are in the examnsweek and do not have time for anything. We talked with groups asking opinion, another local who could get on short notice, was the Town Hall auditorium but they preferred to change the time. We talked with local and agreed that the concert would be at seven. We changed the posters and other things, and sent it to print, while we warned everyone of the changes. Hopefully everything goes well.

Decidimos quedar con Suso, el responsable del Ensanche, el lugar donde tendría lugar el concierto, para cerrar asuntos como el precio que cobraríamos por las bebidas incluidas en la entrada, o el material musical que disponíamos en el mismo local. Muchos de nosotros nunca antes habíamos entrado en el Ensanche, y salimos de allí encantados por las facilidades con las que contábamos y las grandes dimensiones del local.

We decided to meet Suso, te person in charge of El Ensanche, the place where the concert would take place, in order to agree issues like the price that we would charge for the drinks, or the musical material needed by the bands that would act in our concert, which we already have at the pub. Some of us had never been in El Ensanche before until that day, and after been there we were delighted because of the facilities we counted on and the huge space that made up the pub.

¡Tras dos entretenidas horas damos por finalizada nuestra tarde con primaria! Ha sido una tarde diferente a las demás, nos ha llenado mucho esta experiencia en la que hemos disfrutado tanto...¡o más que ellos! Sin duda, sabemos que se llevan una muy buena impresión de la UE y de todo lo que le hemos contado sobre ella.

¡Esperemos que sirva para formar próximos participantes de Euroscola!

After two funny hours we finished our afternoon with primary! It was a different afternoon from the others, we have enjoyed this experience so much ... or more than them! Certainly, we know that they received a very good impression of the EU and all that we told them about it.

Hopefully we will have futures participants in Euroscola!

Nosotros ya habíamos investigado con anterioridad que proyectos necesitaban colaboración en nuestro entorno y ya habíamos hablado con Belén por teléfono para explicarle brevemente quiénes somos.

La reunión fue muy interesante y enriquecedora. Belén nos explicó cómo trabajaba Cáritas y nosotros le contamos qué estábamos haciendo y por qué nos gustaría colaborar con ellos. Al haber investigado ya antes de ir, teníamos más o menos claro que queríamos colaborar con algún proyecto relacionado con gente de nuestra edad, ya que nos es más cercano y nos sentimos bastante identificados.

Belén nos dio la posibilidad de invertir nuestra recaudación en un proyecto denominado "Centro de atención de día", el cual trabaja con jóvenes. Mostramos nuestro interés por él. Belén nos explicó el funcionamiento y quedamos entre todos que sería ese el proyecto con el que colaborásemos. 

El centro de día es un lugar al que van niños de entre cero y dieciocho años después de clase todos los días de lunes a viernes. Son niños en riesgo de exclusión social, que sufren maltrato en casa. Las personas del centro les ayudan a relacionarse sin violencia o con los deberes. 

Decidimos colaborar con ellos y no con otros porque nos sentíamos identificados porque es gente cercana a nosotros en edad, intereses. Además creemos que si ellos ahora reciben ayuda en un futuro será más fácil que consigan una vida digna y que ellos a su vez ayuden a otras personas.

Pedimos que si les podríamos conocer a ellos y a los voluntarios a lo que no nos pusieron problema. Salimos muy contentos de la reunión, podíamos hacer algo grande.

We had already investigated previously what projects needed collaboration in our city and we had already spoken with Belén by phone explaining who we are. 

The meeting was very interesting and enriching. Belén explained us how Caritas worked and we told her what we were doing and why we would like to collaborate with them. Investigating before going there produce that we had more or less clear that we wanted to collaborate with people of our age-related projects, because we are closer and we feel quite identified.

Belén gave us the possibility of investing our fundraising in a project called "Day care center", which works with young people. We show our interest in it. Belén explained the operation and we were together that would be that the project with which we work. 

The day center is a place where children aged between zero and eighteen years go after classes every day from Monday to Friday. They are children at risk of social exclusion, suffering abuse at home. The people from the center help them to relate without violence or with their homeworks.

We decided to collaborate with them and not with others because we were identified because it's people close to us in age, interests... We also believe that if they now receive help in the future it will be easier that they get a decent life and that they can help other people too.

We asked if we could meet them and meet the volunteers, nobody put us problems. We left very happy the meeting, we could do something big.

Después de hablar con Belén nos pusimos a pensar de qué manera podíamos recaudar dinero para el centro de día. Le dimos vueltas a unas cuantas ideas pero al final la que más nos gustó fue la de dar un concierto solidario. Decidimos esta y no otra, porque aún teniendo aforo limitado y por lo tanto recaudar menos dinero, podíamos dar una oportunidad a grupos desconocidos de nuestra ciudad a ser conocidos en el mundo de la música.

Una vez que decidimos que haríamos el concierto, nos empezamos a mover buscando locales y músicos para tener cuanto antes todo en marcha y listo.

After talking with Belén we started to think how to raise money for the day centre. We wondered around a few ideas but finally the one we liked the most was give a charity concert. We chose this idea instead of another because, even having limited capacity and then collect less money, we could give the chance to unknown groups in our city to be popular in music's world.

Once we decided that we were going to organize the concert, we started moving and looking for local and musicians so we could have as soon as possible everything up and ready.

Otra de las actividades que realizamos varios miembros del grupo, durante todo el año, es dar clases de apoyo a niños que lo necesitan. Esta iniciativa está organizada por Cáritas, y los niños que asisten a ellas, son del barrio de Teis, al que pertenece nuestro colegio, y sufren dificultades económicas o psíquicas. La consideramos una actividad muy gratificante, porque estás con los niños durante un año entero, los conoces, los escuchas, los ayudas... Aunque algunas veces sea una tarea difícil, esta actividad es muy productiva para nosotros, porque genera una gran satisfacción.

Creemos que esto tiene que ver con el lema de Euroscola de este año, Año Europeo del Desarrollo, ya que el desarrollo adecuado de estos niños depende de la labor de todos los voluntarios que dedican su tiempo a ellos.

Other activity that some members from Nexus group do, through the year, is teaching in auxiliary classes to children who need it. This initiative is organisated by Cáritas, and the children who assist to them, are from Teis neighborhood, where our school is located, and they suffer economical and psychical difficulties. We considere it a very grateful activity, because you are with the children the hole year, you help them, you teach them, and you know a little bit more about their live. Although it usually is a difficult task, this activity is very productive for us, because it generates a huge sense of satisfaction.

We think that this initiative has relationship with Euroscola's topic based on the European Year of Developing, because the children may develop correctly thanks to the effort made by the volunteers.

Una de nuestras ideas fue intentar concienciar a otras personas sobre la cantidad de cosas con las que se puede ayudar a la mejora de la sociedad. La primera dificultad fue a quién contarle todo esto. Tras pensarlo mucho creímos que las personas a las que más les iba a llegar nuestra charla serían los niños pequeños de nuestro colegio. El segundo problema era adaptar todo lo que queríamos decir para su corta edad, por lo que decidimos que nadie sabe mejor, aparte de ellos mismos, como piensa un niño que sus profesores. Tuvimos una reunión con los coordinadores de primaria, en la que les planteamos qué queríamos hacer para que ellos nos dieran su opinión. La idea fue acogida con los brazos abiertos, es una forma de salir de la rutina y hacer hincapié en cosas que llevan viendo muchos años, como la importancia de la solidaridad o el funcionamiento de la UE, ya que en los dos cursos elegidos era un tema que ya habían tratado con anterioridad. En lo que más necesitamos su ayuda fue en la forma del contenido, nos aconsejaron de forma que lo hiciéramos de manera dinámica, así podrían participar más activamente. Solo nos quedaba preparar las iniciativas y adaptar la información para el evento. Todo iba viento en popa.

One of our ideas was to try to educate others about the amount of things that can help improve society. The first difficulty was who to tell it all. After much thought, we believed that the ones who would like our speech, would young children of our school. The second problem was to bring everything we wanted to say to his young age, so we decided that no one knows better a child that teachers.

We had a meeting with the coordinators of primary, in which we proposed them what we wanted to do, to give us their opinion. The idea was welcomed with open arms, is a way out of the routine and emphasize things that lead seeing many years, the importance of solidarity and functioning of the EU, since in the two courses chosen was a issue had already known before. In what we most need his help was on the way of content, so we were advised to do it dynamically, so they could participate more actively. That left us to prepare initiatives and adapt information for the event. Everything was going well.

Desde un primer momento tuvimos claro que profesores queríamos que nos ayudasen. Esos profesores son los que nos han acompañado desde el principio en nuestro camino de voluntariado. Lo primero fue pedirles ayuda y una vez que nos dijeron que sin problemas les comentamos nuestras ideas. Las primeras reuniones fueron frustrantes, ellos llevan muchos años en esto y sabían que muchas de nuestras propuestas no se podrían llevar a cabo, así que lo enfocamos desde otro ángulo.

Empezamos a buscar gente de nuestro entorno que necesitase ayuda y una vez visto con quienes podíamos colaborar, todo fue más fácil, las ideas brotaban solas. Ahora solo había que ponerse en marcha.

From the very first moment we had clear the teachers we wanted to help us. Those teachers are those who have accompanied us since the beginning in our way of volunteering. The first thing to do was to ask for help and once they told us that they would help us, we tell them our ideas. The first meetings were frustrating, they have spent many years in this and knew that many of our proposals could not be carried out, so we focused it from another angle.

We started to search for people in our environment that needed help and saw with whom we could work, everything was easier, the ideas flowed alone. Now, we only have to start up.

El pasado 27 de Enero, tuvo lugar el Día del Bocata en nuestro colegio. Esta actividad, es una tradición que se viene haciendo desde hace ya años y consiste en el ayuno por una causa, donde casi todo el colegio come un bocadillo por el precio de 5€, y la recaudación obtenida se dirige a algún proyecto de la ONG Manos Unidas, que se ve especialmente vinculada con nuestro centro.

Concretamente, el proyecto de Manos Unidas al que fue donado el dinero recaudado, trata a de la ampliación y la financiación de mobiliario nuevo para un colegio de los Padre Blancos en Niono, pueblo perteneciente a la República de Mali. Este colegio, empezó su funcionamiento hace 50 años, con 750 alumnos. A día de hoy, cuenta con más de 1300, lo cual les obliga a usar cualquier espacio posible para dar clase. A parte de esto, hay unos 240 niños que a día de hoy están sin escolarizar por la ausencia de plazas. Es por eso, que es necesaria una reforma en ese colegio, ya que de esa manera todos los niños podrían ser escolarizados en unos espacios cómodos para todos.

La organización de este evento recae principalmente sobre los alumnos de 1º de Bachillerato, que ayudamos al resto de profesores en labores como la preparación de bocadillos, el reparto por turnos de los mismos, la organización de juegos... Por lo tanto, este año, nos tocó a nosotros. Gran parte de nuestro curso se vio implicado en estas actividades, desde haciendo bocadillos hasta recogiendo los desperdicios que generó esta actividad por el patio de nuestro colegio cuando ya todo había terminado.

Desde Nexus, vimos esta actividad como muy beneficiosa para nosotros y para nuestros compañeros, ya que es un buen método de concienciarnos en la solidaridad, informarnos de lo que pasa en el resto del mundo, y darnos la oportunidad de aportar nuestra colaboración de cualquier forma.

Ambiente general del Día del Bocata en nuestro colegio. El AMPA, los padres de muchos de los alumnos, y los mismos alumnos, se implicaron en la realización del Día del Bocata y colaboraron para que fuese todo un éxito / General atmosphere of Día del Bocata in our school. The AMPA, students' parents and students, got involved in the realization of Día del Bocata and colaborated to make it a success.

Last January 27, took place the Día del Bocata in our school. This activity, is a tradition that has been celebrating since years and it consist on fasting for a cause where almost the whole school eats a sandwich for the price of 5€, and the funds raised are directed to any project from the NGO Manos Unidas, who is especially linked to our centre.

Specifically, the Manos Unidas' project that the raised money was donated to, is about the enlargement and financing of new furniture for a school in Niono, a village pertaining to Republic of Mali. This school began its working 50 years ago, with 750 students. Nowadays, it has more than 1300 pupils, so they are forced to use any possible space to teach. Apart from this, there are around 240 children out of school because of the seats' lack today. That is why a reform in that school is necessary, so in that way every children could be educated in a comfortable space for all.

The organisation of this event lies mainly on students from 1st of Bachillerato, who help the teacher in work like prepare the sandwiches, the distribution by turns of these, the organisation of games... So this year, was our turn. Most part of our course got involved in this activities, from making the sandwiches to collecting waste generated by this activity through the playground  when all was over.

From Nexus, we saw this activity as a very beneficial for us and our classmates, because it is a good way to raise awareness on solidarity, inform us on what happens in the world, and give us the opportunity to bring our collaboration.
